Dr. Eric Heiden
Earning more medals in a single Olympics than any previous Olympic athlete and setting 15 world records in his speed skating career\, Dr. Heiden is a true American sports icon. At the 1980 Lake Placid Olympic Winter Games\, he won the Gold in all five speed skating events\, including both sprint and distance\, while setting four Olympic records and one world record. After retiring from speed skating\, Dr. Heiden began a second career in cycling. On the bike\, he quickly rose to the top\, winning a United States Cycling Championship and competing with the 7-11 team in the 1986 Tour de France just a few years later.
By 1991\, Dr. Heiden had earned his medical degree from Stanford University and was ready to begin his third career - what he considers his life work - as an orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine. From 1991 to 2006\, Dr. Heiden practiced medicine at the University of California Davis and served on the medical staff of the Sacramento Kings. While in California\, Dr. Heiden and colleague\, Dr. Max Testa\, founded the UC Davis Sports Performance program and training center. Returning to speed skating in 2001\, Dr. Heiden served as the team physician for the United States Speed Skating Team at the Salt Lake Winter Olympics.

Massimo Testa\, M.D.
Massimo Testa\, M.D.\, is one of the foremost cycling trainers\, physicians\, and exercise physiologists in the world. Testa attended the University of Pavia in Italy where he earned his medical degree\, followed by four years of specialized training for sports medicine. His first real high-profile job in sports medicine came when he was asked to be the team physician for the 7-Eleven pro cycling team\, the first American-based team to ride in the Tour de France. It was there that he first met Heiden and came up with the idea of focusing solely on training and improving cyclists' performance.
Dr. Testa has worked as a team physician for high-profile cycling teams\, including teams sponsored by 7-Eleven\, Motorola\, and Mapei\, since 1985\, accumulating in over 20 years of experience in the sport of cycling. Basing his training programs on physiology\, biomechanics\, nutrition\, and psychology\, Testa has a reputation as one of the best physicians in the world's cycling community.
Recent Tour de France standouts David Zabriskie and Levi Leipheimer use Testa's expertise and knowledge for their training. Dr. Testa also trained other well-known cyclists like Lance Armstrong\, Davis Phinney\, Bob Roll\, and Andy Hampsten\, the only American to ever win the grueling Tour of Italy.
