So where was everybody yesterday? Now I don't want to point any fingers... but FYI, I heard some words like "quitters, slackers & lazy bums" used by a few after the race while we sat around jawin' on the fun that was just had. HAH!
...and while we're at it. I think I'm talking to myself on these forums lately...

Eric, I check in here...
Eric, I check in here regularly.
That race really sucked the big one.....for me. I seriously pulled my right calf muscle on only the second time up the run-up. DNF on the spot. The wierd thing is that 4 guys (at the least) went past me when I bailed and none of them were Rich Brown?!?!
Rich Brown finished in second place. How many people got flats in that race?
The way the whole race imploded, it looks like I would have done quite well.
I'm going to try and try my best to rehab this thing and get to Sun Valley. It doesn't look good though. When is somebody going to post the results from Tamarack?

Yeah, I flatted. The crappy thing was where it happened though, as I couldn't run the whole back stretch and didn't want to ride it on my rim. I had to cut the course and run back to the pit and start the lap over. Doh... but that's racing for ya! Funny (not really) thing is that I somehow cranked my back during the process and can bearly walk around today... so I guess there are two of us with injuries! FUN!!
I haven't seen the actual numbers, but it seemed like there were fewer people there then at the prior two Boise races. I really just wanted to be the first to use this Smack Talk forum though!!
I wanted to be there, but the...
I wanted to be there, but the old lady made a subtle suggestion that I had a ton of stuff to do and Saturday was a great day to get to it! But that means I missed the day that Eric and Todd decided to have flats and muslce pulls -- dang! Looks like I missed my only chance to finish ahead of you guys!
(The real reason I wrote was that it looked kind of boring to see Eric and Todd as the most recent posts on EVERY THREAD!)
Hi Guys, I will have the...
Hi Guys, I will have the Eagle Island #2 results and the vid clip I did up today. I am waiding through my 300 emails I recieved while I was gone last week so I am not sure about the Tamarack race but I will email Heather and try to get them from her. We had a few less people on Saturday then I thought we would as well. In total between the A,B and C race I think we had 5 people get flats. I think we might have found an area on the course on the pennisula with the 180 degree turn with a few stickers. One racer informed me he went too wide, off the path there and that was when he got a double flat. Unfortunately we live in a very dry climate where thorns grow. From the sound of it, if you stay on the paths it wasn't a problem for 90% off the field. I would suggest getting some Stan's sealant and using a little in your tubes though, especially if you plan to ride in the foothills at all..
So I was talking to Charles...
So I was talking to Charles Stearns yesterday when I dropped his bike off (Thanks Charles for the loaner) and I told him that I pulled 6-7 goatheads out of his tires when I was washing the bike. I asked him if he slimed his tubes, because they did not go flat and he said hell yes, you would have to be crazy not to slime if you race or ride in Idaho. He could not beleive that someone would complain or whine about goatheads. As he said, it is part of racing and you either guard against it or deal with the chance of a flat or two.
Where I picked them up at, I do not know. I tried to ride the same lines I always do but I was suffering good Saturday so I could have been off the beaten path.
Yeah, I won't be making that...
Yeah, I won't be making that mistake again. I found the culprit. One lone goat head... wasn't even a big one. Both tires are now full of Stan's!!
In spite of goatheads, torn...
In spite of goatheads, torn calf muscles, and sore backs, it sounds like a fun race on Saturday (only a cyclocrosser can say that with a straight face!) I'm sorry I missed it, but I had to make a trip to Seattle. Fortunately, I brought my bike and was able to race in the Seattle Cyclocross Series race on Sunday. They have a whole category for old, fat, slow guys like me (Masters 35+ cat 4) and it was pretty fun to race with 45 other guys. New Belgium Brewing is one of the sponsors for the series, and each race had a "beer" placing-- our race offered up a six-pack of Fat Tire for 5th place, creating a dilemma for the guy riding in 4th-- try for the podium, or slack off and try for the beer? Anyway, I look forward to rejoining the very back of the pack at the upcoming races back here in Idaho.
