"A" race on Saturday.

I have a question about the "A" race. Is there any desire to run the Master A 35+ race with the Cat 1-2? I think that the overlap between these two groups is solid. Some guys can reasonably handle either group and maybe this would help increase numbers in that race.

See you all Saturday!

Master A's with the A's

This was a topic from earlier that was left unresolved. i would like to see it happen.

Master's A with the 1/2's

I will think about it. Depends on how many show up and what their general consensus is. I am a little concerned with trying to change this so close to the race and the scheduled times people have been counting on.

Are they upgrading to Cat 2?

Are they upgrading to Cat 2?

would it require an upgrade?

If there is a masters "A" do the competitors need to be 2's or better? How do masters A & B work for road racing? I thought that someone simply decided to race A or B.

Master's A & B on the Road

Brad.S's picture

Ron,

I believe that they typically split up on the road like this:

Master's A = 1/2

Master's B = 3/4/5's

I am not positive but fairly certain.

At this point I am not going to have the Master's A's race with the Cat 1/2 on Saturday for sure.

SWICA masters categories are

SWICA masters categories are A = 1/2/3 and B = 3/4/5; 3s can choose to race either A or B.

Masters A & B

The designation Master "A" or "B" is an informal designation that refers to how the promoter allows groupings in her event.

It can mean anything the promoter wants it to mean so long as the meaning is disclosed. Essentially it is a way to define which of the formally recognized USA Cycling categories are racing together in an event.

It is also traditionally used to designate a "raced together scored together group" That is there is only 1 1st place winner even though there is a 1st cat 3 and 1st cat 4 racer that crossed the line in the event.

Contrast that with a "raced together scored separately" event For example the Master 55+ men and Junior 15-18 racing in a group at State Road race out of which 2 people and old guy and a kid take Gold medals.

SWICA road events are encouraged to use Master A to include 1,2 & 3 racers and Master B to include 3,4 & 5 racers
This lets Cat 3 master select which race they are going to compete in based on how work was, training regimen, how many beers they drank that week and the whole host of other factors that impact fitness and fun.

You silly dirty crossers can do whatever makes sense for the promoter.

And if you think it can be done better or should be different I encourage you to organize an event and put on a race

Slight change to the Master's groupings

Brad.S's picture

Hello all,

I am going to change one of the groupings for my future races. The Master's 45+ A category will now ride with the B Group instead of the C group. That should help allow of the remaining C group participants have the opportunity to get in their laps. I am not going to move the 35+A group to the A grouping. Anyway, check it out if you are interested.

No more changes to categories

Once I change my fliers, USAC, sportsbaseonline, and where ever else I need to make changes, I will not be changing the categories again this season.

Putting on events and trying to grow this sport are hard enough without these sort of changes happening during the season.

This sport is suppose to be for fun and for me that means cowbell ringing, racing and promoting. Last couple of seasons has not been a whole lot of fun on the promoting side. Seems to be a whole lot of want and not too much give.

I do however want to thank those of you who have used this sport just to have fun; race your hearts out and are happy the races exist.
